God talks to each one of us. It is whether or not we listen to Him that is the question.
We belonged to a Church which had a desire to expand the Church building. My family and I were all very involved in the Church and attended faithfully each week and were actively involved in all aspects of the Church. The Church was growing and sadly the building was getting too small and the budget to extend the Church was not growing proportionately to the needs.
So on a fine Sunday morning our Pastor gave a sermon to his devoted flock and asked that we pray for a sign as to whether or not we should raise funds for the Church's expansion.
Dutifully we went out and prayed fervently that week for a sign from God.
On the Sunday following this, the Pastor stood up and told us that as our Church was on a really busy road into town, he had received a letter from an advertising company and they were asking whether they could erect a billboard on the grounds.
They would pay us a handsome fee each month and quite honestly it seemed as if the prayers were answered. This would give us the guaranteed income necessary to expand the buildings.
However, being a diligent Pastor, our Pastor asked that during the coming week we pray for a sign as to whether or not to accept the offer of a billboard on our property and whether or not take the revenue.
The following week, when we were again all seated, our Pastor again addressed the congregation and said that he had received a second better offer from a different advertising company asking that they be allowed to erect a billboard on our property facing onto the main road into town. The offer of remuneration was higher than the week before and the term for the billboard was longer.
Being a devout Pastor, he again asked us to pray about this and ask God to give us a sign.
We went out and prayed diligently all week.
The following week ..... you guessed it there was a third letter from a different company asking if they could erect a billboard on our property offering us more money and a greater period of leasing time.
Well it was decided by the congregation that we did not want a billboard on our property as we would not have control over what was advertised on it.
Ultimately, God did provide the money and we did expand our Church.
I often joke with people when they say "let's pray to God for a sign". We did that three times and were rewarded with three "signs".
When we pray to God let us trust that God will always guide us if we put our faith in His perfect plan!
