Why do Christians get baptized? What is baptism?
Baptism (full emersion in water) represents the death of Jesus, the burial of Jesus and the resurrection of Jesus.
When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, a voice came from Heaven saying:
"This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". Why was GOD well pleased with Jesus? The answer is simple. Jesus was obedient to the will of GOD in everything He did on earth while in human form.
Jesus knew no sin. He was never tempted. He never succumbed to His own will, but always said "Not my will, but THY will".
And that is why as Christians, once we accept Jesus as our Lord and our Saviour, we repent of our sins. And that means that we die to ourselves, we are to be buried to our sin and we are resurrected as a "new creation".
This means that we have died to self and our longings and desires for the evil and sinful things of this world. We are now resurrected and should do a one hundred and eighty degree turn on our sin. Repentance looks like something and our new character should and must be visible.
Our new selves must be filled with the desire to be more and more like Jesus each and every day.
So why be baptized? We do this in obedience to the Will of GOD that we become a new creation. In the image of Jesus Christ, clothed with His righteousness - co-heirs with Jesus!
Prayer: ABBA FATHER, I thank YOU for YOUR grace and favour. I pray FATHER that day by day you fill me with YOUR Holy Spirit and show me YOUR will for my life and make me more and more like Jesus. I humbly pray this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Stay obediently GOD blessed today!
