Ezekiel’s Call to Be a Prophet
He said to me, “Son of man,[stand up on your feet and I will speak to you.” As he spoke, the Spirit came into me and raised me to my feet, and I heard him speaking to me.
He said: “Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to a rebellious nation that has rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have been in revolt against me to this very day. The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’ And whether they listen or fail to listen—for they are a rebellious people—they will know that a prophet has been among them. And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you and you live among scorpions. Do not be afraid of what they say or be terrified by them, though they are a rebellious people. You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious. But you, son of man, listen to what I say to you. Do not rebel like that rebellious people; open your mouth and eat what I give you.”
What I love most about Ezekiel is that he cannot stand in the presence of the vision of GOD. He falls flat on his face. I love this humanity of Ezekiel and I just know that no person will be able to stand in the presence of our FATHER in Heaven. We will all be flat on our faces in HIS Almighty presence. But the Spirit of the Lord comes upon poor Ezekiel and lifts him onto his feet. The presence is so powerful that GOD has to repeat several times to Ezekiel not to be afraid of the people that GOD is sending him to. This is obviously because Ezekiel is terrified in the presence of the vision of GOD. But GOD is telling him that HE will be with him and therefore, he has nothing to fear.
Then GOD tells Ezekiel to open his mouth and to eat the words that HE is giving to him. This seems odd, but once you read the next chapter it starts to make sense. There is no way that Ezekiel in his terrified state is going to remember what GOD has told him and that is why GOD wants him to internalize what he is hearing.
Prayer; Heavenly FATHER, I thank YOU that YOU are so mighty and so powerful that we will not be able to stand in YOUR presence. We thank YOU for this power that we may know that when we accept that we are weak, we begin to know how strong and mighty YOU are. FATHER tonight I pray for YOUR mighty power in being with all my friends who need YOU tonight. Be with them and their families. I pray this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
