As children of GOD we are called to obedience to our FATHER in Heaven. And water baptism is this obedience in action, demonstrating to GOD that we are serving HIM.
Jesus knew this and Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. This was not to cleanse Him from sin, but in obedience to GOD, dying to self and serving the will of our FATHER in Heaven.
When we are batized, it is because we have done a few things in sequence. This is if we are doing things in the right order.
The first thing is that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and our Saviour. The second thing is that we now have faith in GOD that GOD has made our salvation possible through the shedding of the blood of HIS Son, Jesus Christ. The third thing is that we have repented of our sins.
The last thing is that we now want to act obediently to GOD and we are therefore dying to self and becoming new creatures who are convicted by the Holy Spirit to be baptized.
This is water baptism. It is a personal choice and it is not a salvation issue. We can still be saved without being baptized. But if we are able and we want to do this, then we should.
What we must do after baptism is to turn away from our old selves and to put on the new person. A person who now lives for Christ. A person who wants to be more and more like Christ. A person who submits to the will of our FATHER in Heaven.
Prayer: ABBA FATHER, I thank YOU that I have YOUR grace and favour. I humbly ask that YOU make me more and more like Jesus each and every day. I humbly ask this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
