God does not want us to hold a grudge or be vengeful. And the reason for that is that holding a grudge or trying to exact revenge when we are wronged may very well harm us more than the person who wronged us.
Vengeance is destructive emotion. It leads us to hate and think of ways to get even. Whereas if we are wronged and we pray about it and then forgive the person, it gives us a great deal of relief.
This saves us from dwelling on the wrong and gets us moving forward. This is difficult in the case of serious harm having been done to us. In the case of a friend having been seriously harmed or our family having been hurt in any way.
But the moment we put it in the hands of our FATHER by forgiving the wrong, we are doing what GOD wants us to do. We are relinquishing our will in favour of our FATHER and HIM righting the wrong.
Today, let us let go of the past and forgive all those who have wronged us. Then GOD forgives us and we can move forward. We cannot ask GOD to forgive us when we have not forgiven. The LORD's prayer tells us that.
Prayer: Our FATHER in Heaven, Hallowed be THY Name.
THY Kingdom come. THY Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil.
For THINE is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen.
