Ecclesiastes is ascribed to King Solomon. King Solomon asked for nothing from GOD but wisdom. And because he only asked for wisdom, GOD gave him wealth, honour and power in abundance apart from the wisdom that he had requested.
And in summation, King Solomon herein declares. After all the wisdom he had achieved, the conclusion reached is that we need to Fear GOD and to keep all HIS commandments.
Furthermore, King Solomon said that these are the duties of all mankind.
As a child of GOD I would agree with this verse in totality.
Far too much time is spent by humanity searching for the meaning and purpose of life.
Wealth, honour and power cannot be the meaning of life. For when one dies, these traits die with us or are inherited by others. The purpose of our lives cannot be reached based on the value of our achievements.
But what can surely be right is that we are born to fear GOD and to keep HIS commandments.
The reason the word fear is used is because no one really knows GOD or understands HIM. No one can fathom GOD. And in this context, we are to fear the LORD. Revere HIM. Give HIM all the power, all the honour, all the glory.
Prayer: ABBA FATHER, today, I thank YOU that I can fear YOU and I trust that YOU will help me to keep all YOUR commandments. I pray this in the Holy name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
